Description
Three days out is where a pack stops being a bag and starts being a system. This MOLLE backpack carries 70 litres across three separate compartments, four outer pockets and 72 modular attachment points, so the gear you need in the first ten minutes is not buried under the gear you need on day three. It ships free from the United States.
Seventy litres that still counts as carry-on
Bison Outdoor rates this MOLLE backpack as airline carry-on compatible at three quarters of its capacity. That is the detail that decides how a trip starts: you fly with it packed light, then open it out to full volume at the trailhead or the camp. Empty it weighs 4.70 lb, which is light for a pack this size, and the quick-release kidney belt moves the load onto your hips instead of your shoulders.
Features
- 600 denier water-resistant shell. Heavy fabric with a polyester lining that repels water and shrugs off scrapes.
- YKK self-repairing zippers. The part that usually fails first on a cheap pack.
- Three compartments and four outer pockets. A butterfly-top main compartment plus separate storage for what you need fast.
- 72 modular attachment points. Standard webbing rows, so any MOLLE pouch, holster or bottle carrier you already own bolts straight on.
- Hydration ready. Internal sleeve takes a bladder of up to 3 litres.
- Quick-release kidney belt and rapid-access shoulder strap pockets.
- Back panel storage for documents, a map or a slim layer.
- Three colours: Coyote Brown, Olive Drab and Black.

Which colour to pick
The three colours are the same MOLLE backpack; only the fabric changes. Coyote Brown disappears in dry country, desert and autumn scrub. Olive Drab works better in forest and green cover, and it is the one most hunters reach for. Black is the choice if the pack doubles as a travel or range bag and you would rather it read as luggage than as field gear. Stock runs at ten units per colour, so if you have a preference it is worth taking it now.
Where this MOLLE backpack fits
Multi-day hiking, backcountry hunting, overlanding and vehicle kit, a home emergency pack, or checked-bag-free travel. A MOLLE backpack earns its keep when you keep adding to it: the webbing means the pack grows with the trip instead of being replaced by a bigger one.
Care and maintenance
A MOLLE backpack lives or dies by its fabric, so brush off dirt dry before it works into the weave. Spot clean with cold water and mild soap, never a machine and never hot water, which breaks down the water-resistant finish. Air dry out of direct sun. Run the zippers occasionally with a dry lubricant, and store the pack loosely packed rather than compressed so the foam in the belt and straps keeps its shape.
Frequently asked questions
Will a 70 L MOLLE backpack really fly as carry-on?
The manufacturer states it is carry-on compatible at three quarters of its capacity. Airline limits differ and are enforced at the gate, so check your carrier’s dimensions before you rely on it.
Does it come with a hydration bladder?
No. The pack has the internal sleeve and takes a bladder of up to 3 litres, but the bladder is bought separately.
Can I attach my own pouches?
Yes. The 72 attachment points are standard webbing rows, so any pouch built to the same standard fits. The front pouch shown in the photos is included.
Is it big enough for a week?
This MOLLE backpack is built and rated as a 72-hour pack. Seventy litres will physically hold a week of gear, but the harness and the belt are designed around three days of load. For longer trips outdoors, the Leave No Trace principles published by the National Park Service are a good checklist for what actually needs to come with you and what does not.
How does it ship?
Free within the continental United States, direct from a US warehouse. See the rest of our camping and hiking gear or browse the full MAXELTI Active shop.
