The Night Cat beach tent is a light sun shelter for two to four people, made from silver-coated polyester rated UPF 50+. It stands 48 in (120 cm) tall on an 86.6 x 59 in (220 x 150 cm) footprint, and the front door zips down into a 38 in (98 cm) extended floor. The whole shelter weighs 4.2 lb (1.9 kg) and packs to 16.5 x 4.7 x 4.7 in (42 x 12 x 12 cm).

Shade in about a minute, not a wrestling match

Most beach shelters make you thread poles through long fabric sleeves while the wind tries to carry the whole thing off. This beach tent uses clip hooks instead: lay the tent flat, cross the two fiberglass poles into the corner grommets, then hook the fabric onto the poles. Night Cat puts the setup at about one minute. Two sandbags on the sides take a few scoops of sand and keep the shelter planted when the breeze picks up.

How much room is inside

The floor measures 86.6 x 59 in, enough for two adults and two children to sit in the shade, or for two single air mattresses side by side for a nap. At 48 in tall, adults sit upright comfortably but do not stand. The zip-down front floor adds another 38 in of ground cover for towels, a cooler or toys, and it zips back up when you want the beach tent closed.

Setting it up on the sand

Spread the beach tent flat with the door facing away from the wind. Connect the pole sections, cross the two poles and seat each end in a corner grommet so the dome rises. Clip the hooks onto the poles, starting where they cross at the top, then fill the side sandbags. To pack up, reverse the steps and shake the sand off the floor before folding.

Care and maintenance

Shake the sand out before packing, and let the fabric dry completely if it gets damp so it does not mildew in the bag. Rinse salt and sand off the poles and zippers with fresh water after a beach day. Wipe the fabric with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not machine wash it, which can damage the silver coating. Store the beach tent in its carry bag in a dry place.
