Description
A good fishing pliers is the tool you reach for when your hands are cold, the fish is thrashing and the hook is buried past the barb. These fishing pliers are cut from 420 stainless steel, weighs 100 grams and rides on a coiled lanyard so it never ends up on the bottom of the lake.
Fishing pliers you only appreciate at the fourth hour
Nobody buys fishing pliers for the first cast. You buy them for hour four, when your fingers have stopped cooperating and you still have to cut braid, crimp a sleeve and back a treble hook out of a mouth full of teeth. The split-ring nose on these fishing pliers opens rings without chewing the metal, and the side cutter goes through braided line in one squeeze instead of sawing at it.
Features
- 420 stainless steel fishing pliers body — the same grade used in knife blades, chosen for corrosion resistance around salt and constant wet.
- Teflon anti-rust coating — a factory-applied layer over the steel that keeps salt spray from finding bare metal.
- Split-ring tip — opens split rings for lure and hook changes without deforming them.
- Braided line cutter — a hardened side blade that cuts braid, mono and fluoro cleanly.
- Hook remover jaws — long, narrow nose that reaches past the teeth on a deep-hooked fish.
- Safety lock — one-handed lock that keeps the jaws closed in the tackle bag.
- Coiled lanyard and sheath — included on the Pliers Set versions, with a carabiner for a belt loop or a boat rail.
- 100 g and 18 cm — light enough to hang off a vest all day.

Which version should you pick
The Only Pliers versions (A, B and C) are the bare fishing pliers in three colourways. Pick one of these if you already carry a sheath or you keep your pliers in a tray.
The Pliers Set versions (D, E and F) add a moulded sheath and a coiled lanyard with a carabiner. If you fish from a boat, a kayak or a jetty, take the set — the lanyard is what stops the tool going overboard, and it costs two dollars more.
Where it fits
These fishing pliers work in freshwater and saltwater both. The 420 steel and the Teflon layer are there for salt, but the split-ring tip and the braid cutter are just as useful on a bass lake changing crankbaits. Fly anglers use the narrow nose for debarbing; surf anglers use the cutter on heavy leader.
If you practise catch and release, a pair of long-nose pliers is the difference between a clean unhooking and a fish that does not swim away. NOAA Fisheries publishes catch and release best practices that put dehooking tools at the centre of fish survival.
Care and maintenance
Rinse your fishing pliers with fresh water after saltwater use and dry before it goes back in the bag — the coating resists rust, it does not make the tool immortal. A drop of light oil on the pivot every few trips keeps the action smooth. Store it with the safety lock engaged so the jaws do not catch on your line.
Frequently asked questions
Will these fishing pliers cut braided line?
Yes. The side cutter is hardened and made for braid, which is what defeats ordinary pliers. It also handles monofilament and fluorocarbon leader.
Are they suitable for saltwater?
Yes. The 420 stainless body and the Teflon anti-rust coating are chosen for salt exposure. Rinse and dry after each saltwater trip and they will last.
What is the difference between Only Pliers and Pliers Set?
Only Pliers is the fishing pliers tool by itself. Pliers Set adds a moulded sheath and a coiled lanyard with a carabiner.
How long are they?
18 cm overall, 100 grams. Small enough for a vest pocket, long enough to reach a deep hook.
Do they come with a warranty on the split ring tip?
The supplier does not publish a separate warranty for the tip. What is documented is the 420 stainless construction and the Teflon coating.
