This fishing rod and reel combo is the kit for someone who wants to fish without owning a car full of gear. The rod collapses to between 39 and 44 cm depending on the length you pick, the reel is already matched to it, and the whole thing goes in a backpack, a trunk or an overhead bin.

Six sizes, one decision to make

The fishing rod and reel combo comes in six lengths from 1.8 m to 3.6 m, and the reel scales with the rod: the two shortest come with a YO1000, the middle pair with a YO3000, and the two longest with a YO5000. That means you are not guessing at balance. Pick the length for the water you fish and the reel is already the right size for it.

Which length and reel to choose

Every fishing rod and reel combo here is the same build; only the size changes. Short rods cast under trees and load fast; long rods reach further and hold line clear of rocks. In practice:

Worst seller. Worst customer service. Cheap guide rings. Came off before i used it. I initiated return they gave me $10 back. I bought two. 3.0m and 3.6m i am stuck with one. The other one i returned and never received the refund. Stay away from these ppl.

The boxes got beat up badly, but the contents (the rod and reel) were not damaged. I learned my lesson from my last rod. The joints can be sticky, especially at the tip, so i sprayed wd40 into the joints so they won't lock up when collapsing the rod. From my previous experience, the rods are light and durable; the sensitivity is great, you can feel every motion made on the other end. Casting with the rod is also great; the joints don't move once locked into place. I have not tried the reel that came with this one, and i am only speaking on experience from my previous rod, which is the same type. Unfortunately, i broke the tip on that one, but that was on me and not a manufacturing error. The tip locked up and the line got caught on my bag.     Looks a good rod for the money. will be great for a gift for my little boy who’s just getting into fishing. it compacts really small. really good first rod. not sure it would handle anything big but tiddler bashing will be ideal. can’t wait to put it to the test. the boy will love it for sure.
